Phone Not Charging Properly? Here's What Could Be Wrong

A phone that charges slowly, intermittently, or only if the cable is held at a specific angle feels like a charging port problem - and often it is, but not always. Worth ruling out the cheaper causes first.

Cables fail more often than charging ports do, especially with regular bending near the connector. If you have a second cable or charger to try, do that first. A phone that charges fine with a different cable almost certainly has a cable problem, not a port problem.

The most frequent cause by far is lint and debris built up inside the port from pockets and bags, which physically blocks the connector pins from making full contact. Don't dig at it with anything metal or sharp - that risks bending the pins or damaging the port further. The other common cause is worn or bent pins from years of cable insertions, which is a genuine hardware fault rather than something to clean out.

We test with known-good cables and chargers, inspect the port itself, and check whether the issue is consistent or intermittent before recommending a repair.
