Motherboard-Level Repair, Explained

Most repairs - a screen, a battery, a charging port - involve swapping a self-contained part. Motherboard-level repair is different: it means the fault is on the main circuit board itself, in the components that everything else plugs into, and fixing it means diagnosing and working on that board directly rather than replacing a module.

The most common causes are liquid damage that's reached the board and corroded a component or circuit trace, a hard physical shock (a bad drop) that's cracked a solder joint or dislodged a chip, or a power-related fault - the device was charged with damaged accessories, or a component simply failed with age.

A screen fault is usually obvious. A motherboard fault often isn't - a device that won't power on, won't charge, or behaves erratically could have any number of underlying causes, and finding the actual failed component takes real diagnostic work rather than a straightforward part swap. That diagnosis is free if you go ahead with the repair; if you decide not to, a diagnostic fee applies.
