Buying a Pre-Owned Phone Safely

A pre-owned phone can be a genuinely good deal - but "pre-owned" covers everything from a phone that's barely been used to one that's had a hard life and a good clean-up. Knowing what to actually check protects you whether you're buying from us or from a classifieds listing.

A grade (A+, A, B, C - or whatever scale a seller uses) is a shorthand for cosmetic and functional condition, not a legal guarantee. It should reflect real, honest inspection results - screen and body wear, battery health, whether every port and button works - rather than being upgraded to make a listing look better. Ask what the grade is actually based on, not just what letter it is.

Ask for the battery health percentage specifically, not just "good condition" - it's a concrete number that tells you a lot about remaining lifespan. Check that the phone isn't reported lost or stolen (an IMEI check, which any legitimate seller should be comfortable with). Confirm what warranty, if any, comes with it, and get that in writing rather than a verbal promise.
