Apple Watch Repair: What Can Be Fixed and What to Expect
An Apple Watch is small, but most of the common faults are repairable. Here is what usually goes wrong and what to ask any repair shop before you hand it over.
A cracked screen or glass
A knock on a door frame is the usual cause. If the touch screen still responds and the display is clear, the damage may be to the glass only; if the display is faulty as well, the screen assembly needs replacing. A technician can tell you which after looking at it.
A battery that does not last
Watch batteries wear with charge cycles. If yours no longer lasts the day or the watch shuts down on its own, replacing the battery is usually the fix. A battery that is swelling, or a screen lifting at the edge, should be looked at soon rather than left.
A damaged back or sensor cover
A cracked back can affect the heart-rate sensor and how the watch sits on the wrist. It is a separate repair from the screen, so mention it when you ask for a quote.
Water and the watch's seal
Opening a watch can affect how well it is sealed against water afterwards. Ask any shop, including us, how water resistance is treated after a repair so you know what to expect.
